Nenagh ladies were very much to the fore at the Munster Winter League finals at sunny and resplendent Catholic Institute on Sunday last. The Nenagh club won 2 titles on the day. The Gr 5 ladies team of Richelle Treacy (Capt), Kate McKenna, Eimear Gleeson , Deirdre O’Brolchain and Lena Grace (above photo) had a 3/1 win over Limerick Lawn, and the Gr 6 team of Emma Kearns (Capt), Jennifer Lynch, Ciara Cairns and Therese Brophy recorded a similar 3/1 win over Carrigaline.
Nenagh were runners-up in 2 other finals. In the Gr 1, Nenagh were narrowly defeated on a 2/3 scoreline to Douglas. Nenagh had Frank O’Keeffe, Robert Carkill, Anne-Marie Darcy and Lena O’Connor on duty. Meanwhile, St Anne’s Waterford mens team impressed when overcoming a strong Nenagh team of Mike O’Brien, George Hayes, Martin Ryan (Frolic) and Don McClean by 3/1 in the Gr 3 final.
Overall it was a great day at Catholic Institute. With 14 finals down for decision and a 9.30 start and it was a long day. But the weather helped, as did the new courts, and there was a great atmosphere. It has been a long Winter of tennis and all teams (finalists or not) gave it their all. We hope they enjoyed it! A big shout out too to the large travelling support on Sunday and we’re proud to say Nenagh LTC was well represented on and off court on the day. All finals results on Facebook page.
The domestic programme resumes this week with the Dolores Cahalan and Joe Doran Cup events taking place from Wed 5th – Sat 8th April. The late Dolores Cahalan and the late Joe Doran were two extremely popular members and these events are run annually in their honour.
Both events run in tandem and are open to various grades in alternate years. Please enter by placing your name on the sheet currently on the clubs notice board. Closing date is Sunday 2nd April at 6pm. This is a popular 4 day event and we look forward to seeing you on court!
