Nenagh Members Honoured at Guardian Sports Awards

Five Nenagh LTC members received Nenagh Guardian sports awards at a very enjoyable awards night at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh recently.

The occasion was to honour the monthly award winners for achievements in their respective sports during the 2015 year and Frank O’Keeffe (July) and the Nenagh ladies team of Juliana Slattery, Marie Coffey, Gillian Ryan and Deirdre O’Brolchain (November) were among the many prestigious recipients on the night.

It was a multi-sport occasion with many sports being represented among the honours list and for those of us attending it was wonderful to meet the participants and those involved in the other sports, sports which indeed many of us also take an interest in and indeed follow the fortunes of those involved.

It was especially pleasing for Nenagh LTC that it’s members featured prominently. Frank O’Keeffe received the July for his performances at Nenagh Open Week where he won 3 grade 1 events, following on from having represented Ireland at International Vets Tennis in Turkey and becoming the first Nenagh player to win the prestigious Gr 1 South of Ireland singles title.

Juliana, Marie, Gillian and Deirdre won the November award following their success in one of the Midland League. And there was an added bonus for this team in that Juliana was voted ‘Best Dressed Lady’ on the night.

Munster Winter League Update

It was a far cry from Melbourne weather as the Munster Winter League continued last weekend. Wind is never pleasant for tennis. However it was a good weekend for Nenagh teams in action. Wins were recorded by the teams at Gr 1 Mixed, Gr 3 Ladies, Gr 3 Men and the ‘A’ team at Gr 5 mixed (Nenagh has 3 teams playing Gr 5 Mixed).   The Gr 5 ladies unfortunately lost last weekend.

At the time of writing it looks like the Gr 2 Mixed team, the Gr 3 Men, all 3 Gr 5 Mixed teams and Gr 6 Ladies are certain to qualify for the play offs. The Gr 3 ladies are in the mix also subject to last round fixture results.

The Gr 1 Mixed team, despite winning at the weekend, will not qualify, nor will the Gr 5 ladies.   Meanwhile further Gr 4 and Gr 6 fixtures next weekend will further clarify and a couple of other Nenagh teams will be disappointed if they don’t make it.

AGM

It’s AGM time this week at the club and attendees will look back on another wonderful year for the club. The AGM is a symbolic marking of the beginning of a new season and we look to the opening springtime club events. The first club event of the season will be the annual spring doubles league.
