A Sportsman’s Dream Junior Open Tennis

The juniors took centre stage at Nenagh LTC last week with the North Tipp Junior Open Championships taking place.  The Championships were  sponsored by ‘A Sportsman’s Dream’, Nenagh, and all involved contributed to another enjoyable and very successful week for tennis for the club.

There was a most satisfactory entry of local and visiting players.  Indeed the wide circle of entries from outside clubs was reflected in the finals line-up, with players from  Killaloe, Ennis, Larkspur, Larkspur, LLTC, Kilworth, Mitchelstown, Wexford, Rathgar, Monaleen and Birr Wilmer featuring, in addition to many Nenagh players.

Among the more prominent players, Nenagh’s Nathan Slattery was very much to the fore.  Nathan had a great tournament winning all three u.12 events, singles, doubles (with Aiden Foley) and mixed (with Breda Brennan).

Nenagh’s Manus Heenan, the afore mentioned Breda Brennan, Roisin Moore (Ennis), James Halas (LLTC) and Dermot Foley from Killaloe also impressed, each winning 2 titles.

But as in the previous weeks senior open, there were many outstanding performances from players, not necessarily delivering a title or final appearance.

The tournament also included round robin events for boys u.9 and girls u.9 on the Wednesday, both events each attracting a very satisfactory 10 entrants.

Nenagh LTC President Anne Marie Darcy, speaking at the presentation on Friday evening complimented all, players, organisers, parents and others for contributing to the success of the week.  Among the recipients of those compliments were Tournament Directors Mary Ryan and Margaret Folan who again did a wonderful job, along with Referee Frank O’Keeffe.

Anne Marie thanked Siobhan Tynan from ‘A Sportsman’s Dream’ with her generous sponsorship of the tournament.  Siobhan has sponsored this tournament for many years and the club very much appreciates that.

Anne Marie also thanked the ‘back-up’ team which included Julianna Slattery who co-ordinated the food and refreshments rota to such efficient effect and of course all those who brought along food, etc.
