The Nenagh tennis team which last October won the Munster Senior Cup for the first time in the club’s history were honoured at the annual Nenagh Guardian Sports Awards at a most enjoyable function at the Nenagh Abbey Court Hotel on Friday night last. Team members Frank O’Keeffe, Anne-Marie Darcy and Lena O’Connor received their awards from special guest Michael O’Muircheartaigh. Fellow team member Robert Carkill was unavailable on the night.
The club shared the limelight with a myriad of sports stars and administrators. The night represented a unique honour for the club and for those of us in attendance it was wonderful to be part of the occasion.
Five Nenagh teams lined out last weekend in League action. The Gr 1 mixed team narrowly lost to Dougles 2/3. The Gr 3 ladies defeated St Anne’s, while the Gr 3 men drew 2 all with Ballinlough.
And at Gr 5, Nenagh drew 2 all with Douglas, but the men were out of luck against Ennis.
Nenagh LTC latest series of open nights commenced last night and was well attended. These nights present an ideal opportunity for anyone who wishes to sample the game of tennis, and indeed offer an opportunity to former players who may wish return to play. The nights are open to all adults, regardless of age or ability. Racquets and balls are supplied, but runners are essential. Anne Fitzpatrick, Director of Tennis (087-2967498) can supply other information.
There’s 2 further nights and anyone who missed out last night, the remaining nights are Mon 6th February and Mon 13th February. (7.15 – 8.30 pm each night).
The Spring Junior Coaching Programme (members only) begins in late February. Parents who wish to have their children involved should text 085-2401591. Closing date is this Fri 3rd Feb. More details on the clubs Facebook page.
