February 15, 2017
The domestic season is back. The Cleary’s Spring Doubles League will again open proceedings for 2017. The league is scheduled to commence on Mon next 20th February and will conclude on Friday 10th March.
The league will follow the usual format, mens and ladies doubles, graded and guarded draws for partners. Entry deadline is 6 pm on this Thursday 16th February. Entries may be made by purchasing an entry token (€10) at Cleary’s Daybreak Shop just across the road from the club and placing that token on entry sheet at clubhouse. Draws, etc. will be available by Saturday and pairings then arrange their own matches.
Nenagh has a record 14 teams in the play offs, not 15 as we predicted last week! Clint Eastwood made a similar predictive mistake at the beginning of ‘A Fistful of Dollars’. This is a remarkable achievement really. The play-offs will commence this coming weekend. Draws are not to hand, but details will be available on the club’s Facebook page as soon as available. It could be a logistical nightmare if we’ve a lot of home fixtures on a particular weekend and we’ll be depending on the good will of visiting clubs for flexibility in scheduling. Regardless, there will be lots of tennis in the club over the next couple of weekends and we wish all teams good luck their respective quests.
One of the most enjoyable nights at the club in 2016 was not a tennis night at all, but a social quiz night. The good news is that a similar night is scheduled for this year, on Thursday 16th March in fact. Teams of 4 and a good night is guaranteed. We’re not sure if smart phones to be left at door or if the President will police proceedings!
