The Cinnamon Alley Junior Autumn League concluded with another successful and enjoyable Junior Finals Day at the Nenagh Club. Play in the league had been ongoing over the previous 2 or 3 weeks, with pairings in the various groups arranging their own matches.
The league conclusion though, as always, was a formally organised affair with semi-finals and finals given allocated time slots. The semi-finals took place on Saturday, leaving Sunday open for all finals.
And indeed it was a wonderful finals day. Apart from the 6 finals in the league, there was a special ‘red ball’ fun/activities session arranged on the mini-courts for players under the ages of 6 or 7. Twenty one young Federers, Nadals, Sharapovas, Williamses and others participated in this event which appeared to be thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Following the finals, Margaret Folan, Chairperson of the Junior Section, thanked Marie Nagle of Cinnamon Alley, Nenagh for her generous support of the competition. Marie was present at the finals and presented the finalists with their prizes.
We are hosting a friendly invitational match play tournament against Galway Lawn Tennis Club. Doubles/Mixed Matches will take place from 2- 6pm. Sheet on notice board if you would like to play. Followed by a Teenager/Adult Doubles Competition from 6-7.30pm. For those of you not lucky enough to go to the O2 to see Federer ….plenty of tennis to keep you going with this weekend.
Nenagh has 15 Teams entered into the Munster Winter League – matches are well under way – there are 3 home games this Sunday starting from 12pm so please come down and lend your support to the players!
