Slattery Tiles Senior Club Championships
The Slattery Tiles Senior Club Championships commenced on Sunday and finishes on Sat 26th September. There’s a large entry again this year and though Sunday’s weather wasn’t that great it didn’t affect the quality of the matches that were played! Good luck to all those competing this week and enjoy yourselves. A special thanks again to Slattery Tiles for your kind sponsorship of this event. Deirdre McSherry Unbeatable At Interpros
Deirdre McSherry was unbeatable last weekend when representing Munster in the Gr 1 Irish Veterans Interprovincial Championships at St Anne’s Tennis Club, Waterford. Deirdre recorded a 100% success rate winning all 3 of her matches.
Lena O’Connor was also in top form but was out of luck in one of her matches. Pat Guiry and Robert Cummins were other Tipperary representatives on the team which despite a number of fine performances lost out to overall winners Leinster.
Enjoyable President’s Prize Event
A large entry of members played and others came along to honour the President, Anne Marie Darcy, as the annual President’s Prize competition at Nenagh LTC last week.
The tournament committee under the guidance of Club Captain Brid Coffey organised a well run series of graded events over 3 nights of play and there was a lovely ambience in the club as participants and visitors enjoyed tea/coffee and sandwiches/scones in upmarket chinaware each night.
At the presentation on Friday night, James White, speaking on behalf of all members, paid generous compliments to Anne Marie for her dedication to the club and her ever constant superb performance in her role as president, and remarking that this year particularly must have been a hectic one for her as she got married earlier this summer.
Twenty four players got to the different finals, some of them regular faces at finals stages and others welcome newcomers. However the president must have been especially chuffed to present a prize to her mother Meta Darcy, a winner with Patricia Gibson in one of the ladies sections. And those of us from an earlier era were especially pleased to see Marie Whelan make a return to centre stage when appearing in the same final.
