Nenagh and Puckane Tennis Clubs recently added a new inter-club event to the local scene with the introduction of the Captains’ Cup event. This event, to be played annually between the clubs, will involve suitably matching teams within the various grades organised by the respective club captains.
The new cup for the event will be known as the ‘The Captains Cup sponsored by Acorn Life. The cup was presented to the respective club captains, Brid Coffey (Nenagh) and Josie McGahey (Puckane), by Eamonn Kelly, Tipperary area manager of Acorn Life.
Nenagh will in fact be the first holders as the club emerged as overall winners on the first playing of the event, involving 20 players from each club, at an enjoyable night of tennis on Sat 7th Nov followed by a pleasant social event at the clubhouse.
Nenagh will play Birr Wilmer in the deferred final of Div I Midland League in Nenagh on this Thurs night 26th Nov.
Meanwhile, due to Junior Matchplay events in the province, very few Munster Winter League fixtures were scheduled last weekend. However Nenagh’s Gr 6 ladies welcomed Clonakilty to Nenagh for a fixture. The teams drew 2 matches all. Nenagh’s team was Julianna Slattery, Deirdre Ni Brolchain, Doireann Kennedy and Kay Cooney.
This weekend will see a full set of Winter League Fixtures resume with Grades 2, 4 and 6 in action – home and away.
