The Permanent TSB Team Challenge tennis finals night at Nenagh LTC was the conclusion of a very successful 3 weeks of tennis which involved over 160 players of varying grades ranging from beginners to Grade 1. The play-offs on Thursday and Friday and the finals on Saturday proved most enjoyable for participants and onlookers, each night attracting a fine turnout at the club.
Rory O’Farrell, Manager, Permanent TSB Nenagh, exclusive sponsors of the annual team event, was welcomed to the club on Saturday by Nenagh LTC President Margaret Folan. Margaret thanked Rory and Permanent TSB for their wonderful support, both this year and over recent years.
Martin Ryan (Frolic), captain of Section I winners ‘Snow Patrol’, speaking on behalf of all players in the tournament, echoed similar sentiments, as well as complimenting the organisers for another excellently run tournament.
The wide circle of entries from outside clubs was very much reflected in the play-offs with teams/players from Birr, Roscrea, Portumna, Puckane and Limerick featuring. There was a particularly big entry from Birr and the healthy status of tennis in Birr was reflected in that 18 players from Wilmer played in semi-finals and 12 lined out on finals night when 3 of the titles, Sections II, III and IV went to the South Offaly town and another Birr lady, Suzanne Dwyer, featured with ‘Snow Patrol’, winners of section I.
